Blue Gate doesn't feel huge at first, then Apollo sends you into A First Foothold and suddenly every ridge, field, and ruin feels miles apart. That's why I never treat this as a basic repair job. It's more like a map lesson with live fire mixed in. If you're still learning where loot spawns and how to move without getting spotted, having your route in mind matters almost as much as your gear, and a few solid ARC Raiders Items can make those first runs a lot less painful. The four objectives themselves are easy. Staying alive between them is where things usually go sideways.

Ridgeline and Olive Grove

I usually start with Ridgeline if my drop gives me a clean eastern path. The observation deck is easy enough to spot once you're close, and the interaction only takes a moment. The problem is the angle. You're visible from too many lines of sight, and if another squad is already posted up, you're in trouble before you even hear the shot. I've learned to stop short, watch for movement, then commit fast. After that, heading south to Olive Grove makes sense. The comms terminal stands out with that bright yellow color, so finding it isn't the issue. The issue is everyone else knows the area is worth visiting. Players swing through for resources, ARC patrols roam nearby, and fights can break out for no reason at all. Hit the switch and keep moving.

Making the Roof Climb at Data Vault

The third step sends you north to Data Vault, and this one catches people off guard because it's not on ground level. You're looking for the old church ruins, then you've got to work your way up using broken masonry and scaffolding. It's not hard once you see the route, but the first time I did it, I wasted a minute trying the obvious entrance like an idiot. The real objective is on the roof near the satellite gear. Adjusting it is simple, though being stuck in the interaction can make you feel exposed. What I like here is that it teaches you something useful for later runs. Blue Gate rewards players who look up, mantle often, and stop assuming every path is straight ahead.

The Long Push to Trapper's Glade

Trapper's Glade is the part that always feels farther away than it should. By the time you get there, you've usually already burned meds, ammo, or both. The shack is small, and the repair point is on the roof, so at least the target is clear. Still, this area can get messy fast. ARC units wander through with just enough unpredictability to ruin your timing, and if gunfire starts nearby, you don't want to be halfway through an animation with nowhere to go. I tend to clear a little space first, listen for footsteps, then get the repair done quickly. No sightseeing. No extra looting. Just finish it and think about extraction.

What Actually Makes the Quest Worth Doing

What I ended up liking about A First Foothold is that it doesn't force a perfect run. You can chip away at it over several drops, which takes some pressure off if Blue Gate keeps chewing you up. That also means you've got room to learn smarter paths, quieter rotations, and which areas are worth contesting. By the time you complete all four tasks and leave with your progress intact, you'll know the map way better than when you started. And if you happen to come out with a Rare Material in your pack during one of those runs, the whole trip feels a lot more worthwhile.
